PHOTO-OP Robert Byrd, Senator from Podunk, and Henry Waxman, sadly my elected congressman, proclaim President Bush’s recent aircraft carrier landing and speech was a “photo-op”. They are demanding an investigation into its cost. Well. Sure it was a photo-op. The White House, every White House, uses photo-ops whenever available. What the damned Dems can’t stomach is that this one was a terrific success. In the interest of fairness, we bring you some phot-ops about which neither Byrd nor Waxman had anything to say. We also bring to your attention some pictures of chaps who belong to a well-known group of which Sen. Byrd was an illustrious and loyal member. (I think, though I’m not certain, that he was the local leader.)
There are no pictures of Waxman in uniform though he has always worked for the government. (No other employer would hire him.) IN BED TOGETHER Canada’s Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, has a daughter who is married to Andre Desmarais. Who? M. Desmarais is the CEO of a subsidiary of the Montreal Power Company. The what company? The Montreal Power Company which just happens to be the largest shareholder of TotalFinaElf, France’s major oil company. France? At least the Bush crowd made their own money. But it does pay to marry well. How do I know that? John Kerry told me. UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE Iwo Jima is an island in the Pacific of about 8 square miles of volcanic rock. The battle for it, early in 1945, cost 6,800 American and 21,000 Japanese lives. It took 70,000 Marines to take the island over 36 days of combat. What were the fatalities in Iraq? 200? A SECOND BITE AT THE APPLE The Media Myopia column created a stir with our New York Times and Big 3 TV network loving readers. “Not true!” they insist. “Big media is not biased.” Here’s a transcript for you. The setup is Lovely Leslie Stahl, veteran CBS newsbabe,is mano-a-mano with Colin Powell. This s from the March 25th broadcast of “48 Hours”. Lovely Leslie: There are now criticisms, we’re beginning to hear, that this force (in Iraq) isn’t enough. Powell: It’s nonsense ... Lovely Leslie: Yeah, but our rear is exposed. Powell: It’s not. Exposed to what? Exposed to small– Lovely Leslie: Exposed to fedayeen, exposed - Powell: Fine. So? We’ll get them in due course. Lovely Leslie: Are you saying that you’re not worried or concerned about guerilla warfare? Powell: Of course we are and that, and we’re trained to handle this. ... They’re not threatening the advance. Lovely Leslie: But you can’t gt your supplies-Powell: Who says? Lovely Leslie: - can’t get the humanitarian - Powell: Who says? As Rupert says: We report, you decide. LOOTING IRAQI TREASURES The elitist furor over the “looting” of the museum in Baghdad turned out to be another lie of the left. The number of pieces taken was 38. Yes; thirty eight. Turns out it was an inside job, a heist no less but not looting. (Some pieces did show up. Guess where? Paris.) Some idiot in Washington actually resigned his cushy job over the administration’s “failure” to protect Baghdad’s museum. RICK SANTORUM AND TED KENNEDY He sure stepped in it didn’t he? One simply cannot say anything to which a homosexual would object, no matter how true. Bad form you now. Santorum said he had no issues with homosexuals. It was homosexual conduct which he believes to be sinful. (He’s a Roman Catholic.) Is there any mainstream Protestant denomination which does not deem homosexual conduct to be sinful? What about Joe Liebermann’s branch of Judaism? Where does Ted Kennedy fit into this? Well, Santorum’s position on homosexuality is precisely Kennedy’s position on abortion. I’m personally opposed to it but if they want to do it, it’s their right as the court has spoken. Where was the intensive media scrutiny on that? RECOMMENDED READING Dorothy Rabinowitz’s
