SPECTRUM AGAIN AHEAD OF THE CURVE

There is increasing agitation for economic boycotts of France and Germany. These are manifested by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's comments that the United States should consider moving its 70,000 plus troops out of Germany and placing warning labels on French wine and water. Apparently some French wine is clarified using "bovine blood". Hastert, thinking out loud, suggests such information is appropriate to the label on each bottle. As to the Perrier et al, it should be required to meet the same standards as American bottled water said the Speaker.

This is not new stuff. Sean Penn, Saddam Hussein's Hollywood apologist, is reportedly suing (yes suing) a movie production company which decided NOT to cast him in a role which would have paid him $10 million. Allegedly, Penn's politics played a role; no written contract is available. Barbra somebody once argued that her friends and those whose political and social thoughts were similar to hers should boycott skiing in Colorado as a result of Colorado's Proposition 2 which, according to what'shername, was anti-gay.

Fair enough.

If you wish more on this, read our column here.

GASOLINE PRICES

Here we go again. The professorial class, Sierra tree-huggers and press ninnies who absolutely hate automobiles, oil companies and George Bush are now bitching about the price of gasoline. Just a few weeks back they were shouting that the automobile culture is ruining the world, that Bush was in cahoots with Big Oil and all should drive small, non-gasoline powered cars. Okay. The best way to do that is to tax the price of gasoline; i.e., raise it's price. Now that the price has risen, they complain about (alleged) excess profits. They never shut up. By the way, what's an "excess profit"? Do you own a house or condominium? If you do, if you bought it a few years back and if you sold it today, would you consider your profit "excess"? Or about right? If you wait till next year and the market drops, would you be ticked because you could have made more last year? Square that circle if you can.

And remember, all those years you deducted your interest payment from your income tax. Poorer, non-homeowning Americans could not deduct their rent from their gross income. (How fair is that professorial class members?) Should that be an add-on to your "excess profit" on sale? Maybe it should be recaptured on sale just as the IRS does to many investments. Ever think about that?

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES DISCRIMINATES

You might have heard this one. Two sisters are on board a Southwest Airlines plane. It's still "at the gate" because, among other things, the sisters haven't yet decided where to sit. They are bumbling about, trying to decide where to park their tender asses. A stewardess (I refuse to use the "FA" words), seeing these dumbbells, picks up the sound system mike and says: "Eenie, meenie, miney mo; take your seat, we gotta' go" or words close to that. Of course the dumb chicks are black and that starts a law suit. It's amazing how sensitive some people are. This is not Rosa Parks, a real American icon. This is two dumb jerks, who wouldn't sit anywhere on the bus. Forget that scores of their fellow passengers are waiting for them to be seated. Nope. Because they're black, they have special rights. Do you think anyone would use that old rhyme to insult a black person? In public, over the speaker system? And the stewardess was all of 22 years old. In her lifetime, she had only heard that one caught a "tiger by the toe". What do you think?

ABORTION ISSUE

In an Evangelical church in rural Georgia, there is a discussion on abortion. The discussion is one-sided however as there are no speakers for the abortionist position. A pro-abortion person peacefully entered the church as the person believed someone was being done a serious wrong; a woman attendee was pregnant and trying to decide what to do: have the baby or kill the fetus. When the person speaks, a church employee assaulted the person, the person was handcuffed by a security guard, and was arrested when the police arrive a bit later. The charge? Trespass. What do you think?

In December 2000, in Ann Arbor Michigan, a person peacefully entered the Madison Abortion clinic to help women, scheduled for abortion, who, the person believed, were there under duress and who had not been properly informed of their abortion rights. The person was assaulted by an employee, handcuffed by a security guard and, later, arrested by the police. The charge? Trespass. What do you think?

WHO SAID I

"If this minority of French-German obstruction is not overcome...France and Germany will have to answer to those who argue that Iraq could be to NATO what Abyssinia was to the League of Nations." (Historical note: Years ago, Italy invaded Abyssinia. The League of Nations did nada; it just talked. The League of Nations, Woodrow Wilson's pet project, soon disintegrated.) Answer: Arizona Senator John McCain.

WHO SAID II

"If you have a breach that, by everybody's standard, at least in the United States, those of us in the House and Senate, and the president, join together and make a judgment, this is indeed a material breach, and then others--some of them can't be persuaded--if we have evidence, sufficient to show the materiality of the breach, we should be able to do what Adlai Stevenson did on behalf of the administration, Kennedy administration, and sit in front of the Security Council and say, "Here is the evidence. It's time for all of you to put up. We need to all do this together." And that's what I think the resolution that was passed suggests."

Does it sound like George? It's not. Try John Kerry. Yessiree. If we all agree, let's go and ask the Security Council what to do next. That's the democrat's best candidate for 2004. My God! He's illiterate; can't even put a simple sentence together. Moron!

AIDS

In 1999, then President W.J.Clinton's budgeted $225 million for all AIDS help, world-wide. Vice president Gore, at the beck and call of American drug companies, lobbied against generic and/or low-cost drug treatment, the very drugs which have helped so many American AIDS sufferers to live longer and better lives. Those are facts. Here's another. George Bush has proposed $15 billion (with a "b") just to help African AIDS sufferers this year alone; despite recession, despite war, despite the total lack of fanfare from the gay lobby or the gay press. You decide. And Africa doesn't vote, has no oil and is not a particular friend of either the President or the country.

My take? It's the right thing to do. It's one reason why the President is liked and trusted by the non-professorial classes. What do you think? Pandering to the black class? The gays? Or...?

FREEDOM FROM RELIGION

Did you hear about this? A woman majoring in theology was declared ineligible for government financial assistance because of her major field. There was no issue as to her other qualifications. What do you think?
