HAPPY HOLIDAYS or MERRY CHRISTMAS? Noticed the increasing use of “Happy Holidays”; the company’s annual holiday party and similar blandness of language? Orwell would be proud of us and himself. “Merry Christmas” is seemingly headed with Santa back up the chimney and off to the North Pole. Public and private schools may have Hanukkah Menorah’s; Kwanza, of course, is becoming bigger every Christmas and the tannenbaum is replacing the Christmas tree. Even the “Xmas” is leaving us. This is no accident; it is a vast conspiracy; unorganized perhaps but a conspiracy nonetheless. Each little victory subtracts from the weight and history of Christmas and adds to the bland and the secular. Look at the cards in the store racks; the catalogues; the city signs; it is all going away. It isn’t the Grinch who is stealing Christmas from us and our traditions. It is PC; that all-encompassing PC which enables a tiny minority to veto the majority. We are, after all, a Christian nation. Recall that’s how it all began. The Pilgrims left Europe to escape religious persecution and founded a Christian nation which prospered as such, living hand-in-hand with the 1st Amendment. In fact, the 1st Amendment was fully informed by the Pilgrim’s experience: never would they or it allow the establishment of a government religion, i.e., one which must be followed by all. Cf. The Koran and those miserable, Muslim Mullah run countries. Nonetheless, the Lilliputians are taking over Gulliver again. Some of us though simply refuse. Thus, to one and all, Merry Christmas, with all that entails, with all that it has meant for hundreds of years of Western civilization. DEMOCRATS AND BIG CITY SCHOOLS Is it not observably true that virtually every major metropolitan school district is now and has been for decades run by Democrats? New York, D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles: each Democrat controlled. And these school districts are flops, big-time flops. Democrats, however, seem never to be dinged for this devastation wreaked upon urban (black) youth. While local media frequently criticizes the schools, it rarely, if ever, makes the Democrats accountable. Similarly, teachers and teacher’s unions escape blame. It is always that there isn’t enough money available and teacher’s salaries are too low. You’ve heard it all before. But little of that is true. A solution? Vouchers for inner-city school kids. MORE ON THE LYING PROFESSOR A couple of Winners & Sinners back, we pointed out the lying professor, Michael Bellisiles, who was finally fired from his tenured position at Emory University. He’s the guy that wrote an historical critique of gun usage in Colonial America and offered it as a rationale for diminishing the 2nd amendment thus favoring gun control. His work received critical acclaim from Big Media; the book was awarded the Bancroft Prize by Columbia University and the prof was lauded on the morning TV shows. Well, as we told you in November, it was all a lie. The research was bogus, like global cooling was back in the ‘70s. Bellisiles lost his professorship and Columbia rescinded the Bancroft. That was released to the press last Friday, aka, dead news day. According to the Opinion Journal, the New York Times put the story on page four of its Saturday business section.
You will not believe this one. Our federal government’s Fish and Wildlife Service has requested 1,200,000 acres - that’s 1.2 MILLION acres - in Arizona be set aside for 18 [eighteen] owls [that’s owls as in Hoo! Hoo!]. Seriously. These owls have a span of 6 [six] inches and weigh about 2 [two] pounds each. That’s 36 pounds of owl for 1,200,000 acres. The Service estimated the annual cost of the owl program to be about $11 million per year. Let them die. Give the money to the D.C. school district. TRUTHS LOTT MISSED Trent missed his opportunity to exculpate himself, inculpate the Democrats and change the agenda from Me to Them. He failed to point out that the Dixiecrats of Strom Thurmond’s day were Democrats; that George Wallace ran as a Democrat; that Bull Connor (Selma’s Sheriff with the dogs) was a Democrat; Al Gore’s father, the Senator from Tennessee, was a segregationist who voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act; Bill Clinton lauded fellow Arkansan, Senator William J. Fulbright just last year and Fulbright was a segregationist who voted against the 1964 civil Rights Act; percentage-wise, more Republicans voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act than Democrats; Ted Kennedy once shared a platform with George Wallace at some Independence Day celebration (1973); West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd was once a member (!) Of the Ku Klux Klan yet none calls him a racist; Joe McCarthy’s dog lawyer was Roy Cohen but Cohen’s assistant was St. Bobby Kennedy; Democrats put Confederate flags on Southern state capitols and it was Republicans who created racial quotas in the 1969 Philadelphia Plan. Want more? Need more? Why can’t Mr. Lott enumerate these and other, similar items? Why allow the other side to skate? This is why Lott must go. He’s ineffective; i.e., useless. GORE’S GONE FOR GOOD As the months roll by,
memories of Al Gore will fade, his pronunciamentos will raise fewer
and fewer hackles, his statements will become less frequent; in short,
he will become irrelevant to the passing scene. He will be history,
not making it. What’s interesting is who the heck is left among
the Dems? Since 1960, of the 20 presidential candidates, only 4 have
been sitting Senators: JFK, Barry Goldwater, George McGovern and Bob
Dole. How many were elected? One but, then, he was a mick. The others
lost big-time, by 60/40 splits or worse. What’s different today?
None of the Senators planning to run is exciting; Lieberman will receive
attention as the potential first Jewish president. (I thought I might
be he.) So, it looks like George is a good, safe bet. Iraq will be
behind us, the economy will have improved even more by then and, with
those conditions in place, George waltzes in ‘04. I can hear
the weeping and gnashing of teeth in Berkeley now. ‘08? Give
me a break. See me in ‘06.
