THE CLINTONS AND CALIFORNIA

The somewhat tarnished Golden State of California has presented the Clintons with a golden opportunity. Slick Willy comes West and campaigns for Gray Davis; Hillary does too. Both earn chits from California Democrats for party loyalty irrespective of whether Davis is or is not recalled. The President’s poll numbers remain in the 50s range, not the stratospheric 60+ range. It’s 2004 in Boston. Dean, Kerry, Gephardt et al are seen still as the Seven Dwarfs plus 2. No chance for any of them and less enthusiasm from the Democratic convention delegates. Who will be their choice? One guess.

DUMB-ASS MEDIA

Despite its flagellating of California’s recall as a carnival, a circus, chaos and worse, our dumb-ass mainstream media loves to play Jerry Springer. Look at the CBS Early Show with and its allegedly serious Harry Smith. Which candidates have they interviewed? Well, Arnold, of course, and Arianna, who has less than a 4% poll rating. Last week there were three more “candidates” for your inspection: Gary Coleman; Robert Dole and Georgy Russell. Coleman is the midget actor; Dole an unknown business suit and Russell sells thong underwear to finance her campaign. What about Bill Simon who loss by 5 points to Davis in the last election? Missing. What about Tom McClintock the Republican who received more statewide votes in the last election than Simon? Missing.

By the way and for the record, in the election cycle pf 2002, the same crew interviewed NO candidates for governor of any state; no candidates for the U.S. Senate from any state and just one candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives: Katherine Harris, she of Florida’s election fame. And she was asked but one - count ‘em one - question about her race for the House.

ABC’s Good Morning America failed to interview even Harris in the 2002 election cycle.

I knew these folks were tendentious but I thought they were at least serious. I was wrong.

THE CATHOLIC JUDGE

C. Schumer, one of the Senators from New York State, is an anti-Catholic, anti-Christian bigot. He claims the William Pryor, nominated to the federal bench, is a religious ideologue. Pryor, a devout Catholic who is attorney general of Alabama, issued the following statement concerning the Chief Justice of Alabama’s Supreme Court who has defied a federal court mandate to remove the Ten Commandments from the courtroom.

... I will not violate nor assist any person in the violation of this injunction. ... I will exercise any authority provided to me, under Alabama law, to bring the State into compliance with the injunction of the federal court ...
Sounds about right to me. What more could you ask? Schumer simply doesn’t like Catholics or other Christians who - horrors - actually believe what they profess. He thinks Catholics should be like Kennedy, Cuomo and that ilk and those like Pryor or Sen. Rick Santorum pilloried because of their faith.

DID YOU KNOW THAT

The U.N. inspector who failed to uncover North Korea’s nuclear activity was one Hans Blix?

The President did not claim Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat to our security; he said that it would be wrong to wait until he became one.

That in the months of May, June and July, 52 American soldiers were killed in Iraq. In that same time frame, 66 Americans were murdered in Washington D.C.

Canada’s Supreme Court ruled that no murderer, rapist or thief may be denied the right to vote.

In Charleston, SC, three men were shooting at each other on the front lawn of a house. The house-owner came after them and killed one, wounding the other two. The police do not arrest or charge him as he was protecting himself and his family. They did confiscate his weapon though. Why? No reason.

Los Angeles County, County mind you, is home to 30% of California’s 34 million residents. And that does not count the illegals.

THE PLANTATION

When Justice Antonin Scalia argues against racial preferences, his opponents argue against his arguments. When Justice Clarence Thomas argues against racial preferences, his opponents argue that because he (allegedly) benefitted from racial preferences, he has no right to take issue with them. Thomas’s critics cannot abide a black conservative; blacks may not think for themselves; blacks must toe the liberal line or the must be Uncle Toms.

Ever see a black conservative (Shelby Steele or Thomas Sowell e.g.) On any Sunday morning show such as Face the Nation or Meet the Press? Correct; you never have. Not permitted by the liberal bigots who produce those shows for the Big 3 networks.

THE CONSTITUTION

The right to privacy is said to be implicit in the 9th Amendment of our Constitution, thus enabling abortion and homosexual conduct. The right to bear arms is explicit in the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution yet it may not be the basis for striking down gun control statutes and regulations.

THE WHINERS

Campaign finance reform finally cut soft money and explicitly allowed individuals to contribute but $2,000 (hard money, i.e., real cash) to a campaign. The President is doing just that: He is holding large dinner events and collecting $2,000 per attendee. Perfect. Nope. The good government types cannot abide a successful Republican fund-raiser. Carping all over, from Bob Herbert at the shameless N.Y. Times (fat-cats throwing millions) to Fred Wertheimer, permanent reformer, who told the Los Angeles Times the president was raising more than can be “wisely” spent, failing to support his position as to why it was an unwise amount or what a wise amount would be. Liberals simply do not like successful Republicans.

INTERNET QUIP

Making the Net rounds is this one. Bill Clinton is getting $10 million for his memoirs; Hillary received $8 million for hers. That’s $20 million for the memories of people who, for 8 years, under oath, couldn’t remember much at all.
