WINNERS & SINNERS

HIATUS & CHANGES

My extended hiatus is over. I wish I could say I was on book leave or, even better, some exotic foreign assignment (at high pay with expenses) but it was for family reasons which I do not believe [hope] will rise again.

To those of you who wondered what happened, thanks for your interest. As to the others, well, ...

We've made some changes too. With so many other pundits and bloggers nowadays, it became both unnecessary to provide the links to their sites and the sites of newspapers around the world. Our readers know how to find what they want and so our links became redundant. Hence, they are no more.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

The first thing to do is to call things what they are. Immigration is generally good for America; illegal immigration is good for Mexico, not America. Next, note the sea change in the halls of Congress leaving the pro-illegal immigration panderers wondering what hit them. Vox populi is what hit them and many responded by changing their vote as well as their tune. This week, 64 House Democrats - 64! - voted with most House Republicans in passing the Secure Fence Act of 2006: 700 miles of double fence, with high tech bells and whistles, along the porous border between us and that third-world toilet called Mexico. Not a moment too soon either. I think it will pass the Senate which too has heard the expressions of American voters and decided to pass up the entreaties of farmers, restaurateurs and others who like to unemploy entry-level Americans - read young, black men - instead employing illegals for half the pay and zero benefits. I'll pay more for tomatoes to keep young, black men out of the prison system and into the job market any day. That starting job will also provide more eligible black men for young, black ladies to marry and begin real families of real Americans who have lived and died on these shores for hundreds of years.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION II

I still think my old suggestion about what to do with illegals who may be allowed to remain here is the best way to keep the politicos from pandering more than is normal for the breed: no path to citizenship unless the illegals return home and get in line. That they cannot become voters, ever, will reduce their political value to the pols who may then treat the problem with some detached reason rather than calculating how many Joses they can lead to the polls.

VOTER ID REQUIRED

Hallelujah! Congress is 2 for 2 this week approving proof of citizenship on registering to vote and a photo id when at the polling place. The Democrats, who benefit from illegal immigrant voter fraud country-wide, are upset. When told these two steps will reduce voter fraud, they ask: "What voter fraud?" conveniently forgetting Democrat cris de couer over alleged disen-franchisement of blacks in Florida, thus costing AlGore his rightful place in the White House. Bob Dornan would still be in Congress from California had not the illegal immigrant crowd voted in Ms. Sanchez who, as most will admit, is utterly useless, barely a step above Cynthia McKinney, the dope from Atlanta.

U. S. Senator Tom Harkin

What to make of a U.S. Senator who concurs with the vitriol of Venezuela's presidente Hugo Chavez' statements about the President of the United States. Is Harkin that stupid; is he really an American or is he merely a useful idiot for the Left? It's hard to tell but most Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi and Charley Rangel no less, are telling Chavez to get lost; you can't come here and talk about my president that way per Rangel. Good for them but then, everybody should say that. Much as I thought Clinton was a terrible president in most ways, he was still our president. It's one thing to disagree with a person's politics and entirely another to bad-mouth him personally. Does Chavez think he's a columnist or something?

But for Harkin to go public with his concurrence should be enough to get him rejected by even his screwy farmer-boys. He brings home the bacon to the poor farmers - ethanol is the new pork for them - so they keep funding his re-election. Harkin has outdone that other disgrace, E. Kennedy, another U.S. Senator, last seen trying to stop (!) the generation of wind-based power as his ocean view might be impaired. Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment.
