NUTS

Six decades ago, when the world was aflame with World War II, an American general was asked to surrender to the Germans near Bastogne, a little town in Belgium. General McAuliffe replied: “Nuts!” When the German messenger asked for a translation of “Nuts!”, he was told it meant “Go to Hell”. That’s where I think we are with many people, countries and topics in this topsy-turvy world.

Consider.

FRANCE, GERMANY and SWEDEN

SCUD missiles are launched against the coalition forces; a chemical weapons plant is found by American troops. Those were weapons that the U.N. loudly said were not to be found in Iraq; there was no evidence of them. Remember? That was just weeks ago. Have you forgotten already? Don’t. Where are the mea culpas of Hans Blix, another fraud from that cowardly country called Sweden? Where are the treacherous French and Germans who must now admit they were wrong about Hussein? (The French and Germans knew, Baby, they knew. They sold Hussein raw materials for all those banned weapons.) Where are they? Trying to squirm their way into participating in contracts to rebuild Iraq.

Nuts to the French; Nuts - again - to the Germans. To the Swedes? Nothing. Their flag is perfect: a big yellow stripe runs right down its back. Ask any Norwegian of a certain age.

THE PROTESTORS

American forces are criticized when civilian Iraqis are killed by American troops or bombardments. Never before in history has an army been criticized for the deaths of civilians, particularly when that force is obviously trying to avoid such casualties. The slaughter of civilians is one of the ways an army forces its opponents to surrender. It is one of the risks every citizenry faces when its government is under attack. Civilians may or may not be innocent of participation in the military or in the resistance. They are not innocent of accepting a dictatorial government. And the sins of the adults are visited on the very young, the very old and others who cannot defend themselves. Who takes pleasure in that? None I know. Do you know anyone who takes pleasure in that? Do you contend or believe that Americans in or out of the military enjoy killing Iraqi civilians?

Yet, we are accused every time an accident occurs or civilians are killed irrespective of the context or despite the context of war. War against the Nazis meant we killed Germans, Nazi or not, young, old or whatever. War against Iraq means precisely the same. This is not Harvard Yard or the newsroom of the New York Times. This is him or me; us or them. Whether it is face to face or at 15,000 feet is irrelevant. And just how does one precisely locate military targets at 15,000 feet especially when such targets have purposely been melded into civilian areas?

Who are those who carp about the death of Iraqi civilians? Who and what are they? They are one or more of the following. They are haters of their country; they are appeasers; they fear the costs of the serene lives they lead; they shirk the duty attached to the liberty they take for granted; they refuse to believe anyone would want to destroy their way of life as they are so good; they cloak themselves in moral superiority; they avoid facts; they argue with bumper stickers; they disrupt the lives of others without apology as their right; they care about nothing but their own feelings; they are bereft of real ideas, based in the real world.

Nuts to them.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS SPECIAL PRIVILEGE NOT REDRESSING RACISM

Despite all the psychobabble words surrounding affirmative action and the justification theories endlessly mouthed by its supporters, any reasonable person sees three things right away:

1. Affirmative action is government-enforced, anti-white racial discrimination for blacks over whites and not merely one factor in collegiate admissions, employment or wherever it is applied. What would the government do were a school or employer to use race as one factor in giving unqualified whites preference over qualified blacks?

2. Affirmative action has nothing to do with anti-black racism allegedly evidenced by past or present white racism. It grants special privileges to one group over another based solely on race without regard to whether the beneficiary ever was a victim of the alleged wrong being redressed. Newly arrived Africans, Haitians and other blacks receive affirmative action benefits despite being new. Affirmative action is a political construct, pandering to retain or regain black votes.

3. Affirmative action apparently is forever. Never has there been a suggestion as to when or under what conditions affirmative action would be phased out. It is a perpetual right, conditioned solely on pigmentation. If your white, no right.

Thus, the power of governments at all levels, is arrayed and employed against whites and both whites and blacks know it; you know it, I’ve just written it. Arguments against affirmative action are many. One, however, is intuitively known to all: It is wrong. Nuts to affirmative action.

For a government and groups which demand neutrality and the separation of Church and State, this government favoritism intrudes into peoples lives as a clear special, political privilege. Nuts to special privileges discerned, determined and enforced by any government for one class of its citizens to the detriment of other classes of its citizens.
