Holy Wars

Have you read about the "pedophile priests" lately? Neither has anyone else. Wonder why? Certainly the problems aren't resolved by a long shot. June's Bishop's summit conference was a PR flop with few parties satisfied.

For several months, the "pedophile priests" story was on every pundit's lips, irrespective of faith, if any. The chattering cable class, reporters of every stripe and most newspapers were cluck-clucking about the Church. Sug-gestions from changing the celibacy rule to married priests to women priests abounded. And then, mirabile dictu, the truth began to both come out and sink in. That's when it all came to a screeching halt.

This story turned out to be not about "pedophile priests" though there were a few of those loathsome creatures in a collar. The real story turned out to be that the Catholic clergy in America had gone lavender, gone substantially gay, with the top brass encouraging or tolerating gay sex. Right there, the newsboys shut up. Why?

First, they are afraid of the gay mafia, the gay press and the unending vit-riol churned out against perceived enemies. Bill O'Reilly, the 6'4" tough guy who somehow forgot to serve in the military, loves to pick on the big but hapless such as the United Way, the Red Cross, government bureaucrats and what he calls corporate "weasels". He's not afraid of them by golly. But, like his fellow pundits, Catholic or not, he refuses to lay it on those who have committed rape, sexual assault, breached of fiduciary duty, disgraced the Church and hurt, surely not helped, the legitimate causes of homosexuals everywhere.

Second, many media people are gay; they have a stake in the gay agenda. Straight media people have championed gay causes endlessly for years and can't be seen to switch now. They won't take up the cudgels against them-selves.

That's why you see little to nothing about "pedophile priests". The issue was always that the Catholic Church in the United States became an earthly Heaven for gay men. In turn, the gays took charge of the administration and crowded out non-gays. They are all still in place. Nothing has changed. Few Bishops have quit; none has been fired.

How many gay priests are there? The high estimate ranges up to 50%. Stanley Kurtz of Stanford University's Hoover Institute estimates 35% to 40%. No matter which percentage is correct, the number is amazing and shocking. Imagine! 15,000 to 20,000 - thousand - homosexual priests of the 40,000 or so in the United States. Unbelievable. But consider the cover-up. Not cov-ering up the victims, as disgraceful as that is, but the collusion among practically the entire Catholic clergy, in hiding the issue that had to be as obvious as Enron.

What's going to be done about it? Nothing. The Pope would have to fire all 15,000 to 20,000 which includes not only mere priests but monsignors, bish-ops, cardinals. And replace them with ... ?
