SHUN THEM

July 1, 2002

The Florida fiasco has long passed and to some it is old news.  All the wise men and women agree that there are important lessons to be learned from it.  Less clear and less discussed is what should conservatives do based on what happened.

First, look at which lessons were new; that is, what did we learn that was new.  Conservatives were certainly aware of the media's biases before Florida; the judicial activism of courts and the "do anything to win" attitude of Clinton-Gore democrats and liberals in general.  So, as they say in Palm Beach, "What's new?"  Not much save for the gall and brazenness of trying to invert truth and pin the label of thief on Bush.  Chutzpa?  Stop already!

Well, if you believe the media to be biased, and I believe it is, then what we should learn, or re-learn, is that for evil to triumph good men need do nothing.  It is now time - past time - for us to stop doing nothing and do something.  I have a few simple suggestions which, if supported by conservatives, would bring some of the media to their figurative knees.

Cancel your Time and Newsweek subscriptions; do not buy or read the liberal newspapers; do not watch any program on any ABC, CBS or NBC station, even local news.  Nothing.  Shun them all.  Give them the treatment Barbra recommended for Colorado in response to its Proposition 2 on homosexual rights a few years ago. It was sound advice that worked

Never watch Couric, Rather or any of those cackling liberal hens and roosters.  Stop going to R movies; don't encourage biased and factually inaccurate movies like Erin Brocovich.  Why make Hollywood liberals rich so they can use your money to defeat you and your values politically.  Shun them all.

Turn your back on them; kick them in their pocketbook; crush their egos; ignore them.  Keep your kids home and away from those people, businesses and entertainments which are against you, your beliefs and what you want for your country.  They are not only against you, they have no respect for you or for your right to a different opinion.  They mock you; they make smart-ass remarks about you, your religion, your customs, your beliefs.  Do not reward them by showering them with money which is the way they keep score.  Give them nothing.  Shun them all.

Remember: they hate you. And it's no crime to hate you; hating is impermissible only to you.

Watch Fox television; read the Wall Street Journal.  Read all the free internet pundits - all views, from mine to Conason's to Broder.  But shun the left. What do you think they say and do about you?  Does the left ever say anything pleasant or balanced about Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Christians, Mormons, fly-over country, small town life, Reagan?  Nope.  They sneer; they prate; they demean; they insult; they diminish.  They hate you.

Remember that the next time you're tempted to give them money, celebrity or the time of day.  Shun them all.  Take away their money, their platforms and destroy their egos.

See what they do to disgrace John Ashcroft.  Know why?  He believes in God, doesn't like drinking, or dancing, or adultery, or abortion and considers the sexual aspect of gay life to be sinful.  Just think of the terrible effects a person like that could have when in charge of the Justice Department.

Remember: they hate you.  None of them likes any of you.  Don't then turn the other cheek and let them hit you again.  Hit back but be subtle.  Shun them.  Shun them all.
